Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran Preschool bases its curriculum on the Arizona State Standards for Early Learning. The eight domains are:
• Language Arts (pre-reading and pre-writing)
• Mathematics
• Social Science
• Science
• Visual Arts
• Music
• Gross motor (large muscle) development
• Fine motor (small muscle) development
Additionally,
• A faith-based curriculum unit is integrated into the program.
Through the state standards, over 200 curricular goals are set into place. Since young children have a limited knowledge base, we strive to incorporate as much authentic learning as possible. This style of learning is exemplified by “real” things, not just pictorial representations. For example, when talking about an apple, a real apple is brought in for the child to see, touch, and taste.
The value of ‘hands-on learning’ has been realized for centuries. Through the advancements in neurology, in particular ’brain science’; this understanding has been validated and expounded upon.
I hear and I forget,
I see and I remember,
I do and I understand.
